Bio:  Chris Heilman
Chris Heilman is a master of glass-blowing, which dates back as early as 1500BC, an art form practiced by the Egyptians. Each vessel that Chris makes represents a personal expression and expansion of this ancient technique. Chris creates each piece himself, beginning with the design layout all of the way to the final encasement of each vessel with clear molten crystal; each work of art weighing as much as 20 lbs.  "Silver glass is an exotic glass made by adding silver to the glass mix as silver nitrate. When it comes out of the furnace, it is clear, but changes during the blowing process to a milky, semi-transparent glass under a reduction flame. I discovered it by accident 25 years ago when dripping silver into the glass furnace when making another type of glass. I have refined the process to where I can control it and I make vessels with many different colored tints; gold, purple, green, ruby red, teal, and blue. Every one is hand made and hand blown by me, without molds, and may have a few bubbles that are not defects, but part of making studio glass." - Chris Heilman -
